"Always stand proud of who you are where you come from. Make your background be known and that you are here to stay." - Misbah Muzaffer

Q: What led you towards this career path?

A: I always knew I wanted to go into the health field as I was lucky to have the push and inspiration from my father who is a pediatrician in Welch, WV. I used to beg my parents to take me to the dentist and would find myself gravitating towards a person's smile. It is such a simple act that greatly influences a person's livelihood and self-esteem.

Q: What advice would you give students/students of color who aspire to work in the healthcare field?

A: You will get stares. You will be questioned. Your capabilities will be doubted. Use all of people's doubts to fuel your drive. Yes, you are doing this for yourself. However, you are also blessed to have the privilege of furthering your people's good name. This is a challenge that not all can take on but you are more than capable and more than worthy otherwise you would not be where you are now, seeking such an admirable career path. Do not give up or let anyone make you feel inferior. Always stand proud of who you are where you come from. Make your background be known and that you are here to stay.

Q: What motivates you in your current career?

A: I am motivated by my religion of Islam that preaches to help those who are less fortunate than I. I have been blessed with the ability to receive an education so I will use the skills I have attained to aid the ailing and give back to my community. My parents have been exemplary Muslims in giving charity and healing the sick and I wish to follow in their footsteps.
